Working with Content Tokens

Content Tokens allow you to personalize message content by inserting Attribute values - such as a first name or a Member’s current Tier - pulled from a Member Profile. When defining content in the Content Editor, you can insert Content Tokens directly into text fields.

This article assumes that the desired Content Token(s) have been defined in your account. For more information on creating and managing Content Tokens, please see Content Tokens.

Select a Test Member

For testing purposes, the platform will automatically populate Content Tokens in the Content Editor with values pulled from the Member Profile of a selected Test Member. The currently selected Test Member is displayed within the Menu Bar at the top of the Content Editor screen.

For more information on how to designate a Member as a Test Member, please see Member Details: Profile Tab.

To select the Test Member to use to populate Content Tokens:

  1. Within the Menu Bar, click the Test Member icon. The Test Members pop-up window is displayed.

  1. Optionally, click the View icon to open the Member Profile in a separate browser window or tab.

  2. Click the desired Test Member.

Insert a Content Token

The process of adding a Content Token is the same regardless of the text field or location (Master Content or a Layout).

To insert a Content Token into a text field:

  1. In the tool bar beneath the Master Content or a Layout, click the Edit Text icon to toggle into Edit Mode. All of the text fields are made editable.

Note: You can also toggle into Edit Mode simply by clicking into a text field.

  1. Position the cursor within the text field where you want to insert the Content Token.

  2. From the contextual text tool bar, click the Content Token icon. The Insert Content Token pop-up window is displayed. This window lists all of the Content Token defined within your account.

  3. Click the desired Content Token. The platform inserts the Content Token at the cursor position, and populates it with the value pulled from the selected Test Member’s Profile (see above for details on how to select the Test Member).

  4. Optionally, to make it easier to differentiate Content Tokens from regular text, you can toggle on the Show Tokens feature, which highlights all of the Content Tokens in yellow. To toggle this feature on, within the Menu Bar, click the Show Tokens icon.
